Weekly Update October 28
Greetings Parents,
I hope everyone is getting back into the swing of things after the disruption of the past month...
One thing that I have become increasingly aware of in my own life is that it is easy to do many good things but be devoid of the best things. This is particularly true during times of crisis. Surrounded by so much need and suffering in the aftermath of Helene, it is possible to become so focused on the physical and spiritual needs of our community that we forget about the spiritual needs of our family and ourselves.
This is spiritually hazardous. It is easy to think that as long as we alleviate the physical and spiritual suffering of the broader community we are building God's kingdom while failing to realize that we have missed our primary God-given responsibilities to rest at His feet as families and individuals. God will never ask you to serve the community by sacrificing your spiritual well-being or the spiritual well-being of your family on the altar of ministry.
More than ever we need to spend time in God's Word and prayer. We need to be asking ourselves the hard questions. What does the Bible have to say about natural disasters? How is a Christian's response to natural disasters different from someone who is Muslim or Buddhist? How can I accurately and sensitively talk about what has happened with my children, my friends, and my neighbors? Only when we spend time at the feet of Jesus, and lead our families to the feet of Jesus, will we be able to build God's kingdom as we serve the community.
Remember Jesus' words to Martha when she furiously served Jesus (did many good things) without spending time at the feet of Jesus like her sister Mary (she forgot the best thing): “Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered about so many things; but only one thing is necessary, for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her” (Luke 10:41-42, NASB 1995).
This Wednesday at 6:30pm everyone (children and youth included) will meet in the sanctuary for a time of worship, a sermon, and time of prayer.
This Sunday we will continue our Family Sunday School Class at 10am on the bottom floor of the fellowship hall building (the gym). This Sunday evening we will have Refuge Hangout from 6:00-7:30pm.
On Saturday, November 9th, we will have a bonfire at Brian and Sherri Peak's house at 6pm. We will be roasting Hot Dogs and making Smores (dinner will be provided). This event is for families and their children (children/youth), as well as any of our ministry volunteers who wish to attend. I hope to see you there!

May the Lord bless and keep you and your family over the upcoming week,
Matt Tucker out!!!
