Weekly Update November 18
Believe Christ, Not Satan: Paraphrased from "The Bruised Reed and the Smoking Flax" by Richard Sibbes.
Since Christ's love is set out in God's word as a comfort to believers, let us not believe the Devil's lies about him. When we are overwhelmed by our sins, Satan likes to present Christ to our souls as a very harsh judge armed with justice against us. Instead, we need to present Christ to our souls as God presents Him, holding out a scepter of mercy, and spreading His arms to receive us.
When we think about Joseph, Daniel, or John the Evangelist, we think about them with delight as mild and sweet people. If we think this way about them, how much more should we think this way about Christ? We should think about Him as the mirror of all gentleness. If the sweetness of all flowers were combined into one, how sweet would that one flower be? In Christ, all perfections of mercy and love meet. Whatever tenderness is scattered among all our relationships finds its source in Him. Tenderness is found in Christ most supremely.
Because of this, we should hate suspicious thoughts about Christ because they are of the Devil. The Devil's daily work is to keep us from Christ by spreading lies in our hearts about Him. The Devil wants us to believe that the tender of love in Christ isn't available to men as sinful as we are. It has always been the Devil's art to discredit God with mankind by calling God's love into question. This is what the Devil did to Adam in the Garden of Eden and this is what the Devil is doing to this day.
This Wednesday at 6:30pm everyone (children and youth included) will meet in the sanctuary for a time of worship, a sermon, and time of prayer.
This Sunday we will continue our Family Sunday School Class at 10am on the bottom floor of the fellowship hall building (the gym). This Sunday evening we will have Refuge Hangout from 6:00-7:30pm.
On Wednesday, December 18th, we will be having a Refuge Christmas Party for children, students, volunteers, and any parents who wish to attend in the gym at 6:30pm. More information will follow regarding this event in future emails.
Many are likely wondering when we will resume our Wednesday night programs for children and youth. We plan to resume Hyfi and Refuge Students on January 15th since Baptists on Mission are still operating a recovery sight out of our church.
It's time to start thinking about camp, and about registering your children for camp. We have two upcoming camps for kids and students. You can find more information about both camps in the attached document. Registration for both camps will begin on November 1st, and go through January 28th. There are limited spots for each, especially for Snowbird, so all available spots will be first come, first serve. Please see me or call me (980-219-1876) if you have questions or wish to register your children. A deposit of $50 per child is required to register and hold a spot for your child. The remaining balance of $100 will be due by January 28th (the total cost of each camp is $150). Our goal is that any child who wants to attend camp is able to attend camp. If your family is not financially able to send your kid(s) to camp, please reach out to me, so that a solution can be reached for your kid(s) to attend camp.
May the Lord bless and keep you and your family over the upcoming week,
Matt Tucker out!!!
