Weekly Update Mar 4th
This Wednesday at Hyfi we are starting a new theme and a new truth! In No Limit, kids will learn the truth “I Am Loved.” This week we will look at the story of the lost son from Luke 15 and learn how God’s love never gives up. There is no limit to God’s love for us.
Have fun with your kids this week testing different “limits.” How far can you go in your home and still hear each other? How long can you stare at each other without blinking? How many apples can you stack on top of each other? Every time you test limits, remind your kids that God’s love has no limit! Remember, even as a parent, that God's love never gives up on you. There is nothing you can do as a parent that will take away God's love.
This Wednesday at Refuge Students we are continuing in our study on 1 John and the theme of having assurance of salvation. This week we will be looking at 1 John 2:28-3:10, and talking about what it means to be children of God. Being a child of God means that we have been born again and that one day we will see Jesus face to face in a new glorified body. Being a child of God also means that the world won't understand us since it didn't understand our Savior. Finally, being a child of God means that we cannot continue in sin because we have been given new hearts to obey God, and because our Savior came to destroy the works of the Devil. This week as you speak to your students about these topics, explain to them what being a child of God means to you personally. How have you seen God's fatherly care in your life? Why is being God's child so much better than living in slavery to sin?
This Sunday at Sunday School and at Refuge Hangout we will look at Acts 3. In this passage, Peter healed a lame beggar and then preached to an amazed crowd. Through both word and deed, Peter committed himself to the all-encompassing mission of the gospel—that all he said and did would point back to the truth of Christ as Messiah. The significance of the lame beggar’s ability to not only walk but to leap cannot be understated. The prophet Isaiah declared such a miracle would stem from the Messiah’s power. (Isaiah 35:6) What was true then is still true today: God is restoring all things, and this healing further represented His ability to remedy our greatest need for salvation. This man was raised to walk again by the same power that raised Christ from the dead. As you prepare to talk with your kids about Acts 3, reflect on the Holy Spirit’s power at work within Peter. This disciple who denied Christ went on to empower others to repent of their own denial of the Messiah. The same Spirit who restored and redeemed this apostle has empowered you to declare this same hope to the children in your home.
It's been encouraging to see Refuge Hangout growing on Sunday Nights. Due to the number of kids that have been coming each week, I wanted to formalize a pickup procedure for safety's sake. Once Refuge Hangout lets out at 7:30pm, all kids/students whose parents are members of Rebecca's small group will go directly upstairs to their parents (in the college room). All kids/students whose parents aren't in Rebecca's small group will go up to the fellowship hall for pickup at 7:30pm. It's a safety issue if we have kids/students running all over the dark campus after dismissal by themselves, so please pick your children up directly from the fellowship hall.
Please pray for our youth leaders who are going to a training conference this weekend. Not only that they would have safe travels, but that our volunteers would be encouraged, refreshed, and prepared for continued ministry to students.
Don't forget that our monthly calendar can now be found on the website and church app.
